Ohio State football: Linebacker joins 2012 recruits
Linebacker Camren Williams of West Roxbury, Mass., yesterday became the third former commitment to Penn State to flip to Ohio State since Urban Meyer was named coach on Nov. 28.
Williams, rated a four-star prospect by Rivals.com, joined defensive lineman Tommy Schutt of Glen Ellyn, Ill., and offensive lineman Joey O’Connor of Windsor, Colo., as players who turned away from troubled Penn State in favor of the Buckeyes. Williams, son of former 11-year NFL defensive lineman Brent Williams, made his decision known by Twitter.
“It’s official, I’m a Buckeye!” Camren Williams tweeted. “#GoBucks #BuckeyeNation.”
Williams couldn’t be reached for comment. He visited Ohio State this week along with high-school teammate Armani Reeves, a defensive back who at the moment is still committed to Penn State.
Williams, 6 feet 2 and 215 pounds, is considered the nation’s eighth-best inside linebacker prospect by Rivals.com and is the 23rd member of the Buckeyes’ fast-rising 2012 recruiting class, which Rivals.com now ranks No. 3 in the nation behind Alabama and Texas.
Williams is the second linebacker to commit to the Buckeyes in less than a week, joining David Perkins of South Bend, Ind.
“Urban Meyer and his coaches set out to add a couple of great linebacker prospects to the class, and now they’ve done so,” recruiting analyst Bill Kurelic of Bucknuts said.
