Football recruiting: Ohio State wins one, loses one

By Tim May

The Columbus Dispatch Monday January 30, 2012 7:24 PM

Though Ohio State lost out today on a recruit for its 2012 football class, it is going to land a big one for 2013 when all-around athlete Jalin Marshall of Middletown commits to the Buckeyes.

"I am going to commit tonight when I talk to the coach (Urban Meyer)," Marshall told The Dispatch at 7 tonight.

Expected to be the No.1 prospect in the state when rankings emerge for the 2013 recruits, Marshall already was being highly sought by OSU and Michigan. But he had been considered a lock for the Buckeyes for quite a while.

He joins another blue-chip prospect, defensive back Cameron Burrows of Trotwood (Madison), in the 2013 class, giving the Buckeyes and Meyer a major start on the group. Burrows committed 10 days ago.

Meanwhile, reports out of Pittsburgh tonight were that safety Demetrious Cox of Jeannette, Pa., has committed to Michigan State over OSU, Wisconsin, Notre Dame and others for the 2012 class. The first day national letters of intent can be signed is Wednesday.
