Women’s roundup: Connecticut routs Rutgers for 98th straight home win
Stefanie Dolson scored 16 points, Tiffany Hayes had 14 and No. 3 Connecticut defeated 13th-ranked Rutgers 66-34 last night for its 98th consecutive home victory.
The Huskies (21-2, 9-1 Big East) took control with a 17-0 run midway through the first half. Hayes got the run started with eight straight points. Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis then took over, hitting three straight three-pointers.
Rutgers (17-6, 6-4) cut its deficit to 10, but UConn closed the half with 14 of the final 18 points to lead 37-19 at the break.
Connecticut’s last home loss was against Rutgers in the Big East tournament championship game in 2007, which was played in Hartford.
The NCAA recognizes Connecticut’s postseason games played in Hartford or Storrs as home games.
No. 1 Baylor 70, Kansas State 41 — Brittney Griner scored 29 points in another dominating performance, and Baylor (23-0, 10-0) cruised past Kansas State (15-7, 6-3) in the Big 12.
Destiny Williams added 14 points and Odyssey Sims 13 for the Lady Bears, who extended the best start in school history.
No. 10 Wisconsin-Green Bay 85, Wisconsin-Milwaukee 39 — Julie Wojta scored 14 of her 16 points in the first half and Wisconsin-Green Bay (20-0, 10-0) coasted to its 40th straight regular-season victory, defeating Wisconsin-Milwaukee (6-15, 2-8) in the Horizon League.
West Virginia 66, No. 14 Louisville 50 — Asya Bussie had 18 points and 11 rebounds to lead West Virginia (17-6, 7-3) over Louisville (17-6, 6-4) in the Big East.
Linda Stepney added 14 points, Christal Caldwell had 12 and Eastmoor Academy product Ayana Dunning 11 for West Virginia.
No. 17 Georgetown 65, Cincinnati 54 — Sugar Rodgers scored 19 points to lead four players in double figures, and Georgetown (18-5, 7-3) defeated host Cincinnati (11-12, 2-8) in the Big East.
