Wrestling: Ohio State reels in Michigan State
Trailing 15-12 with two matches remaining, the sixth-ranked Ohio State wrestling team rallied to defeat Michigan State 24-13 in East Lansing, Mich., yesterday in the Buckeyes’ final Big Ten match of the season.
In the 125-pound match, Michigan State’s Eric Olanowski was disqualified for unsportsmanlike conduct against Johnni Dijulius, awarding six points to the Buckeyes and deducting two from the Spartans.
With Ohio State leading 18-13 heading into the final match, at 133 pounds, Buckeyes freshman Logan Stieber pinned Brandon Fifield in 1 minute, 36 seconds. It was Stieber’s 13th pin of the season.
Other Ohio State winners were Cam Tessari (149 pounds), Derek Garcia (165), C.J. Magrum (184) and Andrew Campolattano (197).
In Tessari’s match against Dan Osterman, the Buckeyes freshman won 4-2 on a takedown in overtime.
Magrum, ranked 10th in the nation, scored a takedown in overtime to defeat Ian Hinton. Campolattano, ranked 20th, recorded four takedowns and an escape in a 10-3 decision over Nick McDiarmid.
Ohio State (11-3) improved to 5-3 in the Big Ten. Michigan State is 3-9, 1-7.
The Buckeyes will compete in the Cliff Keen National Duals in Stillwater, Okla., on Saturday.
