Women’s basketball roundup: No. 1 Baylor avenges loss to A&M
Brittney Griner had 21 points and 10 rebounds as top-ranked Baylor got off to a quick start and avenged its last loss, defeating No. 15 Texas A&M 71-48 last night in their first meeting since last year’s NCAA Tournament.
Griner put the Lady Bears (25-0, 12-0 Big 12) ahead to stay with her inside basket and free throw 29 seconds into the game. After Tyra White scored for Texas A&M, Baylor scored 14 consecutive points.
Texas A&M (17-6, 8-4) had lost eight in a row against Baylor before the NCAA regional final victory last March. That sent the Aggies to their first Final Four on their way to winning the national title.
Odyssey Sims had 19 points and Brooklyn Pope had 10 points and nine rebounds for the Lady Bears. Griner also blocked six shots. White had 18 points to lead Texas A&M, which shot 28 percent (18 of 64) from the field.
