Multiyear scholarships a go

Saturday February 18, 2012 7:06 AM

The NCAA plan to offer multiyear scholarships will go forward after an override attempt fell just short.

The NCAA said that 62.1 percent of 330 schools called for an override during an online vote this week, falling short of the 62.5 percent needed.

The rule was made last October, giving schools the option to offer multiyear scholarships instead of those that need to be renewed annually. Critics said athletes were unfairly losing scholarships for poor performance.
