PAWS IN THE PARK PAWTY: You and a your furry significant other (or others) get to take over the Freedlander Park pool on Sunday, as this annual Wayne County Humane Society fundraiser turns 400 Hillside Drive into a pooch paradise. Treats, music, a nice, long swim  ... all for a good cause. Registration opens at 11:30 a.m. and the fun runs from noon until 4 p.m. Just $25 for a human and furry friend, and $5 for each "plus one." CHARDON POLKA BAND appears tonight (Thursday) as part of the summer concert series at Orr Park, 400 N. Elm St., Orrville. The concert kicks off at 7 p.m. and features this popular regional band playing everything from Lawrence Welk-style traditional polkas to modern music (think Lady Gaga) with a polka flair. The concert is at Rehm Gazebo, lower Orr Park. There are scattered park benches to sit on or bring your own chair, blanket and picnic snacks. In case of inclement weather, the concert will be moved to Orrville High School auditorium.

KIDRON-SONNENBERG BICENTENNIAL CELEBRATION continues this evening (Thursday) at 7 with a Hymn Sing featuring the Hackett Family Singers at Sonnenberg Village. On Friday, "A Sonnenberg Story" will premiere at the Sonnenberg Village Welcome Center at 7 p.m., following the Saurer Blacksmith Shop dedication at 6:30 p.m. A beard competition and judging kicks things off Saturday at 9 a.m. and an 11 a.m. parade will go through the town north to Sonnenberg Village. BLUES AND BBQ,  a fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity of Wayne County, is Monday, Aug. 12, at TJs Trio of Restaurants, 359 W. Liberty St. Choose from barbecued brisket, pork or chicken (there's also a vegetarian option) and side dishes. Dinners are available from 4:30-8 p.m. Carry-out is available or you can eat in and enjoy a night of blues music with Eric Fairhurst’s Standard Time. Tickets for the dinner are $30 each and are available at Habitat ReStore (6096 E. Lincoln Way), Roomscapes (146 E. Liberty St.), TJ’s and also be purchased at the door.

ORGANIST JOHN FINNEY and English horn player Annie Gerig will be in concert Tuesday, Aug. 13, at 7 p.m. at Christ United Church of Christ, 301 N. Main St., Orrville at 7 p.m. Donations will benefit Ohio's Hospice LifeCare.Finney is the distinguished artist-in-residence at Boston College, where he directs the University Chorale and the Boston College Symphony Orchestra. Gerig plays in several local ensembles, including the Wildwood Winds Quintet, Fare Thee Well and Pipers Three.
