Hell hath no fury like a Buckeyes fan scorned. So it will be interesting to listen to the collective response in these parts on Sunday after Ohio State is denied a spot in the four-team College Football Playoff (consider that a bonus prediction).

Every fan base -- not just those clad in scarlet and gray -- will find a way to make a case for its team when it finds itself on the outside looking in. We've read and heard countless comments this week about how much better the CFP field will be when it's expanded to eight teams. Funny, we don't remember those calls last year -- at least around here -- when the Buckeyes were part of the final four.

But no doubt that was the feeling deep in the heart of Texas.

In all of the scenarios being tossed about that supposedly could get OSU into the playoff, there's another equally worthwhile team getting the short end. Which is fine, of course, when your team is the one that benefits.

Maybe the CFP field should just be expanded to 16, 32 or 64 teams and save a lot of folks the sweat of performing mental gymnastics during the week leading up to the conference championships.
