Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield apologized Monday for symbolically planting a Sooners flag at midfield of Ohio Stadium after a 31-16 win over Ohio State on Saturday.

In a move that angered some Buckeyes supporters, Mayfield grabbed an OU flag, paraded around the field and then "planted" the flag in the Block O at midfield while several teammates celebrated around him.

"I didn't mean it to be disrespectful at all," Mayfield said. "I got caught up in an emotional win."

A year after a 45-24 home loss to Ohio State, Mayfield completed 27 of 35 passes for 386 yards and three touchdowns Saturday.
