WOOSTER — For many motorcycle enthusiasts, there is nothing like traveling the open road collecting playing cards to see who ends up with the best poker hand at the end of the day — especially when the final stop includes barbecue ribs.

That is exactly what is happening this Saturday, June 1 when the fifth annual Rockin’ Rib Run and Poker Run gets underway.

Registration for the event will take place at Leroy’s Place bar and grill, 400 Palmer St., from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. From there, participants will travel to destinations in West Salem, Medina, Dalton and eventually end up back in Wooster at the Wayne County Music and Rib Fest at the Wayne County Fairgrounds with the awarding of prizes at 4:30 p.m.

Linda Runion, Quota member and event publicist, said that one of the stops along the way will be at Dragway 42 in West Salem.

"This is our fifth poker run," Runion said. "And we teamed up with Harley-Davidson dealerships for advice about how to hold a poker run and to see what the riders like to do along the way to make it more interesting and enjoyable for them. They will have the chance to stop and watch a race at the track (Dragway 42)."

Providing a good experience for the participants is an important factor for Runion. "A lot of poker runs focus on charities," she said. "And the one thing I have found with motorcycle riders is that they are very generous and kind. They have very big hearts when it comes to supporting charities."

Adding to the excitement is the fact that, at the end of the run, cyclists will be treated to the sights, sounds and eats of the rib fest. "Most know each other and they socialize a while after the run," Runion said. "This is a really good group of people."

While many will be looking forward to a day on their motorcycle, others can try to win one by entering the Big Q Raffle that is also taking place.

"The winner can choose between $15,000 cash, a 2019 Harley-Davidson Street Glide or a 2019 Ford Fiesta," Runion said. "The winner will be chosen during the rib fest during a band intermission."

Tickets for the drawing, as well as registration for the poker run, can be purchased online at www.woosterquota.org. Rib run tickets are $15 single or $20 couple. Tickets for the Big Q Raffle are $20 each or six for $100. Vehicle prizes may be substituted or used as a payment option in the purchase of a different vehicle at the dealerships of Stinger Harley-Davidson in Medina or Pallotta Ford in Wooster.
