Three days after Ohio State appeared as the final team in Jerry Palm’s NCAA Tournament bracket projection for CBS Sports, the Buckeyes are now being projected elsewhere as a No. 3 seed – in the NIT.
It its first bracket projection in two weeks, nycbuckets.com projects Ohio State to face No. 6 seed Memphis in the opening round of the NIT. With a win, the Buckeyes would then face either No. 2 seed Clemson on the road or host No. 7 seed Iowa. Until the final four, higher seeds host NIT games.
The top four NIT seeds, according to this projection, are Virginia Tech, Arkansas, Indiana and Seton Hall.
The website dratings.com, which also posts NIT projections, has Ohio State as the top No. 4 seed for the tournament.
No NCAA Tournament projection site complied by BracketMatrix.com that has been updated since Saturday’s loss at Maryland currently sees the Buckeyes making the tournament.
Ohio State is 15-11 overall and 5-8 in Big Ten play, tied with the Hoosiers for 10th place in the conference. The Buckeyes are seventh in the Big Ten in the RPI and are 59th nationally. KenPom.com ranks them 61st nationally.
