Ohio State junior Kelsey Mitchell and Northland High School product Alexis Peterson of Syracuse were named second-team All-America on Monday by the Associated Press.

A 5-foot-8 guard from Cincinnati, Mitchell ranked in the top 10 nationally in scoring with an average of 22.6 points per game to help the Buckeyes reach the Sweet 16 in the women’s NCAA Tournament. OSU lost to Notre Dame on Friday in Lexington, Kentucky.

Mitchell, the Big Ten’s player of the year, is eligible to enter the WNBA draft this summer, but is expected to return to Ohio State for her senior season.

Peterson, a 5-7 senior guard, averaged 23.4 points and 7.0 assists for the Orange. She ended her Syracuse career second in all-time points (1,978) and first in assists (590).

The AP’s first team included Washington senior Kelsey Plum, the NCAA’s career scoring leader; forwards Napheesa Collier and Katie Lou Samuelson of unbeaten Connecticut; A’ja Wilson of South Carolina; and Brionna Jones of Maryland.
