The Ohio State men's volleyball team will begin defense of its national title as the No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament, to be played May 4-6 at St. John Arena.
The NCAA released the six-team bracket on Sunday, with Ohio State (30-2) opening May 4 against the winner of a May 2 match between fourth-seeded Hawaii (26-5) and No. 5 Penn State (21-10).
No. 3 BYU (24-4) will play No. 6 Barton (23-5) on May 2, with the winner advancing to face No. 2 Long Beach State (27-3) on May 4.
The final will be held May 6.
Will Grimmer tied for ninth to lead Ohio State to a tie for fourth in the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate played at the OSU Scarlet Course. Grimmer finished at 9-over-par 222. Dylan Meyer of Illinois won with a 2-under 211. Illinois shot 864 to win the team title, followed by Kent State (874) and Iowa (899), with OSU and Penn State at 903.
Jaclyn Lee tied for fifth at 2-over 218 to lead Ohio State to a third-place finish in the Big Ten championships at TPC River's Bend in Maineville, near Cincinnati. Michigan State won the team title at 866 followed by Northwestern (868) and the Buckeyes (877). Elodie Van Dievoet of Michigan was medalist at 6-under 210.
Ohio State (25-2, 11-0) romped to a 4-0 victory over visiting Purdue (6-16, 1-9) to clinch its second consecutive Big Ten regular-season title. OSU has a first-round bye in this week's conference tournament at Illinois and will open play in a quarterfinal on Friday.
Sean Melton finished second on rings and tied for third on high bar in leading Ohio State to a second-place finish in the NCAA men’s gymnastics championships Saturday night in West Point, New York. The Buckeyes had a season-high score of 423.700. Oklahoma (431.950) cruised to its third consecutive title.
