Ohio State’s top-seeded Mikael Torpegaard lost in the third round of the NCAA men’s singles tournament this morning to Virginia’s Thai-Son Kwiatkowski, 6-1, 7-6.
Torpegaard got a service break early in the second set but was broken back and the set went to a tie-break, which Kwiatkowski won 7-3.
Torpegaard was the last remaining Ohio State player in either the men’s or women’s singles. Hugo Di Feo and JJ Wolf lost in the first round. Francesca Di Lorenzo, the top seed in the women’s tournament, also fell in the first round.
Torpegaard, a junior, lost in the finals last year.
Di Lorenzo and Miho Kowase remain alive in doubles.
Both the OSU men’s and women’s teams reached the semifinals of the team tournament before losing.
