Defensive back Marcus Hooker, younger brother of NFL first-round draft pick Malik Hooker from Ohio State, committed Thursday to be part of the Buckeyes’ 2018 recruiting class.
For Marcus Hooker — 6 feet and 185 pounds, from New Castle, Pennsylvania — the connection to Ohio State was a major pull. Malik rose to fame as a third-year sophomore safety last season.

“My journey begins,” Marcus posted on his Twitter page. “I’ve talked it over with my coaches and family, and I’ve decided I’m going to commit to The Ohio State University!”
The Buckeyes had made a scholarship offer just the evening before but had been considering him for a couple of years.
Like his older brother, Marcus might be considered underrated at this point in the process, bearing a three-star rating in the 247sports composite of the major recruiting services, but his skills were obvious during the Friday Night Lights skills camp in Ohio Stadium last week.
He is the 16th member of the Buckeyes’ 2018 class.
