Star of the game

J.T. Barrett, with 364 yards total offense, moved his career total to 10,350, and his 275 yards passing put him first on Ohio State’s list at 7,622. His three touchdown passes extended his Big Ten career record of touchdowns responsible for to 115.

Turning point

Rutgers appeared intent on making it a game early, but Dante Booker’s interception changed that. Tipping the ball to himself at 2:52 of the first quarter, he set the stage for an 87-yard touchdown drive by the Buckeyes. Rutgers’ shot at averting the shutout came with 43 seconds left, but the 32-yard field attempt doinked off the upright.

After a lopsided win over an inferior opponent a week earlier, the Buckeyes actually dropped out of the top 10 to 11th in the media poll and stayed pat at No. 9 in the coaches poll. Who knows what the voters will do this week, though considering Ohio State was favored by just 29, it would have to labeled an over-achievement.
