Analysis: Familiar territory

They’ve seen this show before at Rutgers: Ohio State had its way with the Scarlet Knights in the second quarter and essentially wrapped up another decisive win over their Big Ten subject. The Buckeyes ran 20 plays in the quarter, gained a total of 155 yards on three of them and had touchdowns on four of them to expand their lead to 35-0 at intermission. Ohio State’s domination was complete. It had 208 yards in the quarter, limited Rutgers to a net of 1 yards and one first down. Mike Weber scored on the first play of the quarter on a 3-yard run off left tackle for a 14-0 lead. OSU punted on its next possession, but scored on each of its next three. The first was a 70-yard pass play from a scrambling J.T. Barrett to a wide-open Johnnie Dixon on a third-and-17 play. After forcing a three-and-out, Barrett and Dixon hooked up again on a 39-yard score in which the receiver barely stayed inbounds along the left sideline. After another three-and-out by Rutgers, OSU went 75 yards in seven plays, the big one a 46-yard strike from Barrett to Binjimen Victor on third-and-13. Three plays later, Weber crashed in from 2 yards out for his single-game career-high third TD of the game, and the rout was on. – Ray Stein
