As Mike Weber raced away from the Sparty defense for an 82-yard touchdown run, the fleeting chance of a Michigan State comeback seemingly fell away.
The Buckeyes took it to the Spartans in almost every way in the first half, outgaining the Spartans 320 to 91. The ground game was especially effective against the Spartans, racking up 248 rush yards against the Spartans, the No. 3-ranked rush defense in the nation.
Ohio State’s defense was consistently in MSU’s backfield, collecting two sacks and four tackles for loss. Damon Arnette was opportuntistic, recovering a fumble and intercepting a pass.
MSU redshirt sophomore Brian Lewerke appeared flustered from the get-go, and his stat line shows it; he finished the first half 8-for-22 with 46 yards and an interception. He recorded 400-plus yards in his last two performances against Northwestern and Penn State.
