Notre Dame coach Muffet McGraw rattled off the names of all seven players in the rotation when talking about her team’s most valuable player, but junior guard Marina Mabrey has been the Swiss Army knife.
Mabrey moved from shooting guard to the point after season-ending knee injuries to Mychal Johnson in preseason and Lili Thompson on Dec. 31. Johnson was considered the team’s best defensive guard and Thompson was a true ball-handler.
In the NCAA Tournament, Mabrey has averaged 6.5 assists and 2.5 steals, and she played all 40 minutes in regional victories over Texas A&M and Oregon. For the season, she leads Notre Dame with 73 steals and 163 assists and averages 14.8 points and 4.4 rebounds.
