Central Ohio native and former Ohio State center Byron “BJ” Mullens has been added to this year’s Scarlet & Gray team participating in The Basketball Tournament.

The summer event, a single-elimination, 5-on-5 tournament that features 72 teams playing for a $2 million prize, will see a team solely comprised of former Buckeyes attempting to build on last year’s success, when the team reached the semifinals. Mullens joins a roster that is also comprised of William Buford, Aaron Craft, Jon Diebler, Dallas Lauderdale, David Lighty and Evan Ravenel. The team will be coached by program alumni Scoonie Penn and Evan Turner.

Not included on the preliminary roster is Jared Sullinger, who participated last season.

This team could find itself facing another team with former Buckeyes. Monday, team “Big X” was announced, which features former Ohio State players Jae’Sean Tate, Kam Williams and Andrew Dakich alongside former Michigan players Duncan Robinson, Mark Donnal, Stu Douglass and Jon Horford and Illinois’ Nnanna Egwu.

There has already been some back-and-forth banter on social media between Dakich, who put together his team, and Penn, who is Ohio State’s director of player development.
