Ohio State verbal commitment Alonzo Gaffney remains the top overall prospect from Ohio in the class of 2019, but the Garfield Heights product is no longer a five-star recruit in the latest 247Sports.com rankings.

The new list, published today, now has the 6-9, 190-pound Gaffney as a four-star recruit and the No. 39 overall recruit in the nation. That’s a drop of 21 spots for Gaffney, who is the No. 7 small forward prospect in the country.

The updated rankings include the top 247 prospects in the nation and feature 10 Ohioans. They are, in order:

50. Jeremiah Francis, Pickerington Central (committed to North Carolina)

92. Samari Curtis, Xenia (committed to Xavier)

166. Jordan Mitchell, Gahanna

179. Andre Gordon, Sidney

193. Miles McBride, Cincinnati Moeller (committed to West Virginia)

232. Christian Guess, Shaker Heights

242. Greg Tribble, Cincinnati Winton Woods

244. Amari Davis, Trotwood-Madison

245. Josh Corbin, Gahanna

Curtis climbed 50 spots.

DJ Carton, a point guard from Bettendorf, Iowa, who is high on Ohio State’s list, has been elevated to five-star status. Josiah James, a five-star point guard from Charleston (S.C.) Porter-Gaud School, is also being recruited by the Buckeyes.

It’s unclear how many recruits the Buckeyes will take in 2019, but coach Chris Holtmann has made it clear he doesn’t want to take more than five in any given class as he tries to balance out the roster. A working assumption is that Ohio State will sign three or four players.
