Former Blue Jackets player Andrew Cassels has joined the Ohio State women’s hockey staff as an interim associate head coach, the university announced.

Cassels spent 16 seasons in the NHL with six franchises, including Columbus from 2002-04, and played in 1,015 games during his career. He had previously coached the Cincinnati Cyclones of the ECHL and with the Blue Jackets' AAA program.

The seventh-ranked Buckeyes, under coach Nadine Muzerall, open the season on Friday against visiting Quinnipiac.
