Star of the game
Dwayne Haskins Jr. passed for five touchdowns and 499 yards. Parris Campbell, Johnnie Dixon, Terry McLaurin (two touchdown catches), Chris Olave and K.J. Hill were the major recipients. A 63-yard pass to Dixon followed by a 9-yard TD pass to Dixon put Ohio State ahead by 14 with 9:11 to play.

It had to be the defensive stop after Dixon’s touchdown. Ohio State freshman Tommy Togiai nailed John Moten IV for a 4-yard loss, setting up fourth-and-7 from the 46. Jeffrey Okudah broke up a pass intended for Bennett Skowronek, and with 6:41 left and a 14-point lead, there was relief.
Struggling then pulling away from a 14-point underdog was not the tape the Buckeyes wanted to send to the College Football Playoff committee. It’s likely the decision to leave OSU out of the playoff and send it to the Rose Bowl already had been made. But what a consolation prize if it holds true.
