Ohio State goaltender Andrea Braendli stopped all 32 shots she faced and Jincy Dunne scored the game’s only goal on a power play in the first period to lead the seventh-ranked Buckeyes over No. 1 Wisconsin in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association game on Friday night at the OSU Ice Rink.
With the Badgers’ Grace Bowlby off for slashing, Dunne scored her second goal of the season at 7:50 off assists from Sophie Jaques and Emma Maltais. Braendli made it stand up with nine saves in the first period, 10 in the second and 13 in the third for the Buckeyes (15-6-0, 9-4-0). Braendli improved to 12-6-0 this season.
Kristen Campbell stopped 19 of 20 shots for the Badgers (19-2-0, 9-2-0), who were scoreless on three power-play chances. Ohio State was 1 of 6 on the power play.
Host Michigan scored twice in the second period then held Ohio State scoreless on only five shots in the third to upset the fourth-ranked Buckeyes 2-1 in a Big Ten game.
Freddy Gerard’s third goal of the season gave OSU (12-5-4, 5-3-3-2) a 1-0 lead at 5:50 of the first period, off assists from Carson Meyer and Dakota Joshua. But goals by Jake Slaker at 6:40 and Will Lockwood at 17:32 of the second put the Wolverines (8-8-6, 4-4-4-2) ahead for good.
Michigan goaltender Hayden Lavigne stopped 22 of 23 shots. The Buckeyes’ Sean Romeo made 29 saves.
