Jake Seibert, a top-ranked kicker from La Salle High in Cincinnati, verbally committed to Ohio State on Tuesday night, joining the Buckeyes’ recruiting class for 2020.

Seibert is considered one of the premier high school kickers in the nation and was ranked as the No. 1 overall prospect for the 2020 class by the Chris Sailer Kicking Academy, which evaluates the top talent.

Publicizing his commitment in a tweet, Seibert committed to Ohio State over other scholarship offers from a handful of schools, including Akron, Michigan State and UCLA.

The evaluation from the Chris Sailer Kicking Academy said Seibert “has 60+ yard (field-goal) range and gets excellent lift on his ball.”

His pledge gave the Buckeyes a possible successor for Blake Haubeil, their lone scholarship kicker on the roster who has two more seasons of eligibility left and will be a senior when Seibert could arrive on campus next year.

Ohio State did not bring in a scholarship kicker in the recruiting class for 2019 it signed in the winter. There are two more walk-ons listed on the roster.

As a sophomore last season, Haubeil made 10 of 13 field-goal attempts, including a long of 47 yards, and hit all 37 extra-point attempts.

Seibert would be the second recent Ohio State specialist to arrive from La Salle, following current punter Due Chrisman.
