Ohio State 77, Bowling Green 10

Sept. 3, 2016

Just how good coach Urban Meyer could be at sustaining success became apparent in this opener. Despite losing 16 starters from the previous season, the Buckeyes dominated in a record-setting opener. Quarterback J.T. Barrett passed or rushed for seven touchdowns, and the team gained 776 yards on offense. On defense, safety Malik Hooker made two interceptions. The tone was set, and the regular season culminated with the Buckeyes, ranked second, defeating No. 3 Michigan by three points. They missed the Big Ten championship game but still were selected for the College Football Playoff, where they suffered a humbling and surprising shutout loss to Clemson.
