One weekend after hosting two top-50 recruits for the class of 2020, the Ohio State men’s basketball program will host a key recruit this weekend.
As the football team hosts Cincinnati, The Dispatch has learned, the Buckeyes will welcome three-star power forward Zed Key from Glen Head (New York) Long Island Lutheran. The 6-foot-8, 215-pound Key holds a few dozen offers and has seen his recruitment pick up during the summer.
Among the schools to have also offered Key a scholarship: Wisconsin, Illinois, Florida, Penn State, Rutgers, Notre Dame, Providence, Cincinnati and Georgia. Key told Rivals.com that he is planning to take a trip to Florida in late September but it’s not known what other official visits Key is planning to take.
Key is ranked as the No. 222 recruit in the nation, the No. 6 prospect from New York and the No. 42 small forward prospect according to the 247Sports.com composite rankings.
His visit to Ohio State comes after coach Chris Holtmann hosted four-star shooting guard Moses Moody and four-star power forward Lance Ware last weekend. Ware announced a top five on August 4 consisting of Kentucky, Miami, Michigan, Ohio State and Providence. A senior at Burlington (New Jersey) Camden, Ware is scheduled to take official visits to Michigan this weekend, Providence on Sept. 13 and Miami on Sept. 27.
The 6-foot-5, 180-pound Moody has announced a top seven consisting of Arkansas, Florida, Kansas, Michigan, Ohio State, Oregon and USC. A native of Little Rock, Arkansas, Moody is playing for Montverde (Florida) Academy.
Key’s visit will extend what is planned to be a busy recruiting period for the Buckeyes, who are looking to sign one player in the early signing period. Ohio State currently has official visits planned for each of the next five weekends.
