Star of the game

Defensive end Chase Young matched his performance from the opener with 1.5 sacks against Cincinnati, leading a disruptive pass rush that combined for five sacks and seven tackles behind the line of scrimmage. Young also blocked a field-goal attempt in the second quarter.

Stat that matters

23: The average starting field position for Cincinnati was its 23-yard line, as Ohio State punter Drue Chrisman twice pinned its offense inside the 10-yard line, including once at the goal line. It made it an even tougher hill to climb for the Bearcats.

Big picture

The Buckeyes defeated a quality team. Though Cincinnati was unranked, it had been among "others receiving votes" in the latest national polls and had been shut out only once in this century. Ohio State won’t face a ranked team until at least Sept. 28 when it visits Nebraska.
