Star of the game
Quarterback Justin Fields picked apart Northwestern’s secondary, completing 18 of 23 passes for 194 yards and four touchdowns without throwing an interception. It was the fourth time in Fields’ seven starts that he finished with a pass efficiency rating above 200.
Stat that mattered
24: The Buckeyes scored 24 points in the second quarter against the Wildcats, continuing one of their most productive stretches. Not counting the opener, they have scored at least 21 points in every second quarter this season, including as many as 42 points in last month’s drubbing of Miami Univesrity.
There was no trap game, no night game slip-up against a middling team from the Big Ten West as in previous seasons at Purdue and Iowa. Rather, Ohio State toppled the Wildcats with ease and improved to 7-0 ahead of next week’s high-stakes matchup with Wisconsin.
