A haphazard shooting night and a tough outing on the boards doomed
the Ohio State women’s basketball team in a 68-53 loss to South Dakota on Friday night at the South Point Shootout in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The Buckeyes (3-3) led 16-15 after the first quarter, but the Coyotes went on a 7-0 run to begin the second, taking a lead they wouldn’t relinquish on their way to a 21-point second period.
Ohio State's Rebeka Mikulasikova scored a team-high 19 points. Kierstan Bell added 12 points and Jacy Sheldon had 10. The Buckeyes finished the night 18 of 52 (34.6%) from the floor and 11 of 20 (55%) from the free-throw line. Ohio State was outrebounded 32 to 24.
South Dakota (6-1) was led by Summit League Preseason Player of the Year Ciara Duffy, who was three assists shy of a triple-double. Duffy led all scorers with 22 points and added 12 rebounds, seven assists, one block and one steal. Chloe Lamb had 13 points and Monica Arens added 11.
Ohio State caps the South Point Shootout on Saturday night against Northern Iowa, which was undefeated going into Friday night’s game against Alabama.
