The Big Ten will not hold its football media days and kickoff luncheon as scheduled due to the coronavirus pandemic, the league announced Friday afternoon.

The annual preseason events had been set for July 22-23 in Chicago.

In its announcement, the Big Ten said it planned to "continue to monitor developing information and continue to consult with medical experts to determine the appropriate dates and format for our annual event."

Other conferences, including the Big 12 and Pac-12, have canceled their traditional media days in favor of virtual formats.

No decisions have been announced by the Atlantic Coast Conference or Southeastern Conference regarding their scheduled media days.

A Big Ten spokesman said around 600 media members were credentialed for last year’s media days at the Hilton Chicago.
