Ohio State 45, Marshall 7

Sept. 2, 2010

The Big Ten Network called and asked, and so Ohio State moved its opener for the first time to a Thursday night. The day of the week hardly mattered in a dominating effort. Terrelle Pryor passed for 247 yards and three touchdowns, and the defense never allowed a touchdown, with Marshall’s score coming on a return of a blocked field-goal attempt. The Buckeyes stood solid with their No. 2 ranking through the first half of the season, moving up a spot just in time for an upset loss to No. 18 Wisconsin. That dropped Ohio State out of the national title picture, but what happened after the season proved far more shocking: revelations of NCAA rules violations that prompted Pryor to leave school and cost coach Jim Tressel his job.
