2013: a look at 15 Ohio State season openers in 15 days
Ohio State 40, Buffalo 20
Aug. 31, 2013
For some openers, you have to squint to see the positives. Braxton Miller passed for two touchdowns and Jordan Hall ran for two, all in the first half, in impressive performances. But putting away Buffalo included some nervy moments. Future NFL standout Khalil Mack scored on a 45-yard interception return, and the Bulls were within 10 points for most of the third quarter. Still, the win came, and they kept on coming until the first loss occurred at the worst time possible, to Michigan State in the Big Ten championship game. It kept Ohio State, winners of 24 straight games, from having a chance to advance to the national championship game in the final year before a four-team playoff debuted. Wait till next year.
