Check out Ohio State coach Ryan Day’s final ballot in coaches’ poll

Ryan Day voted Ohio State as the No. 1 team on his coaches’ poll ballot at the end of the regular season.

The ballots were released this week by USA Today, which publishes the poll.

Day, the first-year coach for the Buckeyes, voted in the poll this fall as had his predecessor, Urban Meyer.

The Buckeyes were ranked second in the coaches' poll behind Louisiana State, the same spot as in the final College Football Playoff rankings. As the second seed, they face third-seeded Clemson in the semifinals in the Fiesta Bowl.

After the Big Ten championship on Saturday night, with the Buckeyes remaining unbeaten, Day said he felt his team deserved to be No. 1 in the rankings.

In the coaches’ poll, 14 of the 65 participating coaches put Ohio State at No. 1 on their ballot, including seven from the Big Ten.

Along with Day, the coaches from the conference that voted the Buckeyes atop their ballot were Rutgers’ Chris Ash, Purdue’s Jeff Brohm, Michigan State’s Mark Dantonio, Northwestern’s Pat Fitzgerald, Penn State’s James Franklin and Nebraska’s Scott Frost.

The Buckeyes faced all of those teams, with the exception of Purdue, and won by an average margin of 32 points.

Ash was previously the coach at Rutgers before he was fired in late September.

Day ranked Louisiana State second, followed by No. 3 Clemson, No. 4 Oklahoma and No. 5 Georgia.
