Ohio State continued to build its highly regarded recruiting class for 2021 on Wednesday when it picked up a commitment from Donovan Jackson, a four-star offensive lineman from southeast Texas.
Jackson announced his commitment in a ceremony held at a gymnasium at Episcopal High School in Bellaire, Texas.
To reveal his decision, he grabbed an Ohio State visor and unzipped a pullover to reveal a scarlet-colored polo shirt.
In front of a cheering crowd, he went on to make an “O-H” gesture with his arms and uttered, “Go Bucks!”
Jackson committed to the Buckeyes over Stanford, Texas and Texas A&M, among others. He had visited Columbus in November, attending Ohio State's home game against Penn State.
The announcement came one day after Ohio State secured a commitment from Jaylen Johnson, a three-star safety from Cincinnati, bolstering a class that has remained the best in the country, according to 247Sports' composite rankings.
Among the Buckeyes' nine commits, Jackson becomes the second offensive lineman to join the class.
Ben Christman, a four-star offensive tackle from Richfield, committed last June.
Jackson is rated as the nation's No. 57 overall prospect and No. 1 guard, giving the Buckeyes six top-100 players in the 2021 class, the most among any program. Notre Dame has the second most with five.
While 247Sports listed Jackson as a guard, it is possible he might play elsewhere on the offensive line for the Buckeyes, including at offensive tackle due to his size. He is 6 feet 4 and 308 pounds with a wingspan that has measured nearly 7 feet.
