Ohio State's football season opener at Minnesota in 2021 has been moved up two days from the previously scheduled date.

An Ohio State spokesman confirmed that the game has been moved to Sept. 2, a Thursday, rather than Sept. 4, a Saturday.

Big Ten teams have played nine-game conference schedules since 2016, prompting the league to put conference games on Week 1. As a result, some have been put on Thursday nights during the first week.

The Buckeyes opened in 2017 on a Thursday night at Indiana, while Northwestern faced Purdue for the teams' 2018 opener.

In 2015, Ohio State also opened its season on a non-traditional date when it visited Virginia Tech.
