Ohio State’s 2019 recruiting class remains ranked fifth nationally in today’s updated rankings released by

In the new 247Sports rankings, the Buckeyes trail USC, Kentucky, UCLA and Auburn, in that order. Their two-man recruiting class of point guard DJ Carton from Bettendorf, Iowa, and small forward Alonzo Gaffney from Wolfeboro (New Hampshire) Brewster Academy is still likely to add one more member.

Carton a five-star prospect, dropped one spot in the rankings to the No. 22 recruit in the nation. Gaffney, a four-star prospect who transferred from Garfield Heights, Ohio, for his senior season, climbed two spots to No. 39 overall. He is the only player from Ohio in the top 100.

The Buckeyes will host four-star power forward E.J. Liddell from Belleville (Illinois) West on an official visit at the end of this month. He is No. 57 nationally in the new rankings.

Other Ohioans on the list include Pickerington Central’s Jeremiah Francis (No. 109), Xenia’s Samari Curtis (123), Cincinnati Moeller’s Miles McBride (176), Sidney’s Andre Gordon (192) and Gahanna’s Jordan Mitchell (244). Francis is committed to North Carolina, Curtis to Cincinnati after de-committing from Xavier and McBride to West Virginia.

The 247Sports composite rankings tell a slightly different story for the future Buckeyes. In the composite rankings, which were also updated this morning, Carton is the No. 21 recruit and Gaffney is No. 29. Ohio State is one of three schools to have two top-30 commits for 2019, joining Kentucky and USC. In those rankings, Ohio State is sixth nationally and Liddell is the No. 40 recruit.
