Dennis Hopson, a former All-American guard for Ohio State, has been hired as the men’s basketball coach at Lourdes University, the school based in the Toledo suburb of Sylvania announced Thursday.

Hopson, 54, had been an assistant at Bowling Green from 2009 until 2014, but was not retained when coach Louis Orr was fired.

He most recently had been the boys basketball coach at Bedford High School and director of basketball operations for the YMCA of Greater Toledo.

A news conference was scheduled for Friday to introduce Hopson. Lourdes, an NAIA program, went 18-13 overall last season.

Hopson, a Toledo native, remains Ohio State’s all-time leading scorer with 2,096 career points totaled over four seasons, including 958 as a senior in 1987 when he was named the Big Ten player of the year. He later played five seasons in the NBA.
