Zed Key to sign with Ohio State basketball Wednesday, Eugene Brown on Friday

Ohio State will officially add its first of two members of the class of 2020 on Wednesday.

Zed Key, a three-star power forward prospect from Glen Head (New York) Long Island Lutheran, will sign his national letter of intent to play for the Buckeyes at a ceremony at his high school at noon. Wednesday is the first day of the early signing period.

Key committed to the Buckeyes on Sept. 22, choosing them a little more than two weeks after taking an official visit to campus.

At the time, he had planned to take official visits to Marquette and Florida, both of which had offered, but canceled both and committed to Ohio State.

According to the 247Sports.com composite rankings, the 6-foot-7, 215-pound Key is the No. 160 national recruit, the No. 31 power forward in the nation and the No. 5 prospect from New York. Boston College, Buffalo and Charlotte, among others, had also offered him a scholarship.

He will officially be joined Friday by his classmate, four-star shooting guard Eugene Brown III. The Conyers (Georgia) Southwest DeKalb guard committed to the Buckeyes six days before Key and will sign during a ceremony inside his high school auditorium at 1:30 p.m. Friday.

The 6-6, 190-pound Brown had narrowed his list to six schools and had official visits looming to Texas A&M and Louisville in the coming weekends. He is ranked as the nation’s No. 111 overall recruit, the No. 25 shooting guard in the nation and the No. 6 prospect from Georgia in the 247Sports rankings.

The two will put the Buckeyes over the scholarship limit for the 2020-21 season by one player, but it is expected that at least one player will leave the program early. A likely candidate is junior center Kaleb Wesson, who could play his way into the NBA with another standout season.

The two-man class is ranked No. 50 nationally and No. 9 in the Big Ten by 247Sports.
