Ohio State’s Musa Jallow to redshirt after undergoing surgery

Ohio State junior guard Musa Jallow will have reconstructive surgery on his right ankle Friday and will take a redshirt for this basketball season, coach Chris Holtmann said Wednesday.
Jallow has not appeared in a game for the Buckeyes this season. When preseason camp opened, he was sidelined with an ankle injury that led to Jallow undergoing a surgical procedure on the right ankle Oct. 18.
Since then, Jallow has progressed out of needing a scooter and walking boot and had seen limited action in practice.
“He can kind of stand there and shoot,” Holtmann said in a Nov. 12 interview. “That’s about his limitation. I’ve not been told anything on when his return is. I still think we’re a ways off.”
Jallow will have two years of eligibility remaining. Ironically, Jallow graduated high school a year early to enroll at Ohio State and will now be in his original graduating class.
In 68 career games including 23 starts, Jallow has averaged 2.7 points and 2.2 rebounds in 14.5 minutes per appearance. He ascended into a starting role down the stretch as a sophomore and played a key part in helping Ohio State reach the NCAA Tournament, where he started both games.
Holtmann said Jallow will have a full healthy offseason after the surgery.
