Ohio State basketball season tickets would include potential St. John Arena game next season
If the Ohio State men’s basketball team plays a game in St. John Arena next season, it will again be included in all ticket packages.
That is one of multiple updated ticket proposals put before the university’s board of trustees that will be voted upon this week, and one that addresses what became a talking point when the Buckeyes returned to their former arena earlier this season.
With Chris Holtmann as coach, Ohio State has played one game in each of the last two seasons at the building that housed the basketball program for 42 seasons before it moved across the river to Value City Arena for the 1998-99 season. When the Buckeyes hosted Cleveland State during the 2018-19 season at St. John, the game was included among all season-ticket packages.
This season, in order to address what a university spokesman told The Dispatch said were a number of unused seats spread across the arena by ticket holders who opted not to attend, season-ticket holders were given first priority on tickets for the St. John game against Kent State but had to purchase them separately from their season tickets.
In part as a result, the announced attendance for this year’s game at St. John was 8,850, a decrease of 4,426 fans from the announced attendance the season before. That’s roughly an attendance drop of 33%.
Otherwise, ticket prices will remain similar to where they have been in recent years. Student tickets will be $9 for all games, regardless of opponent. Ohio State will again use variable ticket pricing, with the cost varying between exhibition, non-conference, conference and premier levels.
Tickets for each game are divided into six zones. Each zone will see a $1 price increase for conference games and a $2 increase for premium games. The latter category will be announced when the 2020-21 schedule is finalized.
Season tickets will increase correspondingly but 12% off the aggregate total price of individual game tickets for the public and 20% off the aggregate total price for faculty and staff.
