Hockey | Incoming Ohio State freshman selected in NHL draft's third round
Layton Ahac, who will be a freshman for Ohio State in the fall, was selected by the Vegas Golden Knights in the third round, No. 86 overall.
“It’s surreal,” Ahac said of hearing his name called. “So many emotions running through my mind. It was instant joy and excitement. I’m super excited for the future.”
Ahac, a defenseman from North Vancouver, British Columbia, spent the past two years with the Prince George Spruce Kings in the British Columbia Hockey League. He was ranked 62nd in the final rankings of North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting.
Despite getting drafted, Ahac said he is looking forward to starting his collegiate career with the Buckeyes.
“They have a great program and a winning culture," he said. "They also develop their players. With team success comes individual success, and I’m super excited to get going there.”
