Ohio State reclaims No. 1 spot in team recruiting rankings with commitment from defensive tackle Tyleik Williams
Ohio State has retaken the top spot over Alabama in the recruiting rankings for the class of 2021.
The Buckeyes were bolstered by a commitment on late Thursday afternoon from Tyleik Williams, a four-star defensive tackle from northern Virginia.
Williams announced his commitment in a two-minute-long video released on social media, becoming the 19th player in the class.
Though they have held the No. 1 overall position in 247 Sports’ composite rankings for most of this year, the Buckeyes had fallen a spot earlier in the week.
Since Aug. 15, the Crimson Tide added three commitments, included cornerback Khyree Jackson, one of the top junior-college prospects in the country.
The margin between the teams vying for the recruiting crown is narrow, with 302.2 total points assigned to OSU and 299.49 points for Alabama.
With Williams in the fold, the Buckeyes added to arguably their strongest position groups for the 2021 class, a collection of commits that features Pickerington North defensive end Jack Sawyer, one of the top overall recruits in the country.
But Williams offers more size, the biggest of the bunch. He is listed as 6-foot-3 and 330 pounds by 247, a potentially disruptive presence in the trenches.
Williams picked the Buckeyes over other finalists, such as Alabama, North Carolina, Louisiana State, Southern California and Virginia Tech.
He will be unable to play his senior season of high school this fall in Virginia, which postponed the season until the spring. He is a senior at Unity Reed in Manassas, Virginia, a southwest suburb of Washington, D.C.
