Former Buckeye rower takes Bronze at the Tokyo Olympics
A former Buckeye has medaled at the Tokyo Olympics.
Women’s rower Ilse Paulis took bronze in lightweight double sculls with a time of 6:48.03, less than half a second behind the gold medalists from Italy.
The time was also just slightly off the pace set by Paulis and her partner Marieke Keijser in the semifinal, in which they finished in 6:43.85.
Paulis spent one season at Ohio State, in 2012. Her bronze medal adds to a trophy case that already includes Olympic gold, which she won with partner Maaike Head in Rio in 2016. Head retired from the sport soon after.
All told, there are six former or current Buckeye rowers competing in this year's games, and there are more than 30 athletes with ties to the Columbus area participating in the Olympics and Paralympics.
