Ohio State’s run on Big Ten freshman of the week recipients continued Monday.

Quarterback Kyle McCord picked up the weekly honor after throwing for 319 yards and two touchdowns in Saturday’s 59-7 win over Akron.

It was the fourth straight week that a Buckeyes player has won the award with McCord following running back TreVeyon Henderson and fellow quarterback C.J. Stroud, who received it after the first two games.

McCord took over as the starter against the Zips while Stroud rested an injured shoulder. Showing some first-game jitters, his passes on the Buckeyes’ opening series were off the mark, but he settled following the first drive.

Until an interception in the third quarter, he completed 12 of 14 passes over a stretch and finished 13-of-18 passing.

Coach Ryan Day has not announced a starter at quarterback for this week’s game at Rutgers.
