Headlined by Bruce Thornton, Buckeyes to sign five-member 2022 class
One day after getting the 2021-22 season underway, the Ohio State men’s basketball team is set to finish signing a five-member recruiting class Wednesday.
The class, ranked No. 5 nationally by 247Sports.com, is headlined by four-star point guard Bruce Thornton from Alpharetta (Georgia) Milton and features four commitments ranked among the top 75 in the nation. All five future Buckeyes will sign during the early signing period.
Here’s a look at who is signing for Ohio State, listed in order of when they committed.
A 6-3, 160-pound shooter from Cincinnati Princeton, Hardman was the first player to commit to the class when he did so May 13, 2020. A three-star prospect, Hardman is ranked as the No. 8 prospect from Ohio, the No. 48 shooting guard in the nation and the overall No. 294 national recruit.
Hardman will sign at 2:30 p.m. Eastern time at his school.
Later that fall, the Buckeyes landed a commitment from Gayle, a four-star guard from Youngstown (New York) Lewiston Porter Senior. Listed at 6-4, 195 pounds, Gayle has since transferred to Mount Pleasant (Utah) Wasatch Academy, where he is listed as the No. 63 national recruit, the No. 6 shooting guard and the No. 2 prospect in the state.
Gayle will sign during an all-school assembly sometime between 1:30 and 2 p.m. Eastern.
Ranked No. 41 nationally, the 6-1, 205-pound Thornton committed to Ohio State 13 days after Gayle and is considered to be the crown jewel of the class. Praised for his leadership and playmaking ability, he is ranked No. 41 nationally, No. 1 in his state and as the No. 6 point guard in the nation.

In search of another wing/big body, the Buckeyes finished their class in late September when the 6-6, 240-pound small forward from Orlando Lake Highland Prep committed as the fifth member. After missing the 2020-21 season due to injury and the overall impact of COVID-19 on the year, Sensabaugh is ranked No. 74 nationally, No. 21 at his position and No. 15 in his state.
