Ohio State falls to Michigan in men's hockey

Staff reports

Michigan scored twice in a 25-second span late in the third period and added an empty-net goal to defeat Ohio State 5-2 on Friday at Value City Arena.

The No. 17 Buckeyes came back from down a goal twice but couldn't hold off the No. 3 Wolverines. Ohio State got goals from Georgii Merkulov and Grant Gabriele, the latter tying the game with 6:51 to play. Ohio State had a 38-25 shot advantage.

“At the end of the day they scored more than we did," said Ohio State coach Steve Rohlik. "I don’t think we were perfect. I thought we got better and our third period had a lot of energy. We had some chances. But, give them credit. They end up firing two at the net and getting two late.”

Ohio State fell to 9-6 while Michigan improved to 14-5. The teams played again Saturday night.
