Staff reports
Guard Taylor Mikesell (24) was two 3-pointers shy of tying the Ohio State single-game record on Wednesday.

Taylor Mikesell scored 27 points, including seven 3-pointers, as No. 24 Ohio State defeated Alabama State 97-51 at Value City Arena on Wednesday.

Five Buckeyes scored in double figures. Jacy Sheldon had 14 points while Rebeka Mikeulasikova had 12 points and 11 rebounds. Rikki Harris also scored 12 points while Kateri Poole had 11 points, five rebounds and four assists.

Mikesell was two 3-pointers shy of tying the OSU single-game record, set by Kelsey Mitchell against Minnesota in 2015.

"She has a huge impact for us, especially when we get her that many shots," Ohio State coach Kevin McGuff said of Mikesell. "I thought the team did a really good job of finding her in open places.”

The Buckeyes' 13 3-pointers were a season high. They have made 10 or more 3-pointers five times this season.

“I don’t think anybody had a bad night tonight," Mikesell said. "I think everybody had a really good night. People built confidence tonight. It was a really great win overall for everybody.”

Ohio State is 8-2. Alabama State is 1-6.
