Ohio State closing concession stands for home athletic events
Ohio State is closing all concession stands at all university-related athletic events starting with Thursday’s home women’s basketball game against Illinois.
In a Tuesday night press release, Ohio State said only water will be available at games and that the athletic department will “continue to monitor and evaluate this policy moving forward and communicate any changes when applicable.”
The decision was made in conjunction with the school’s return to campus guidelines, according to the release. Fans will not be permitted to bring their own food or beverage into events.
The move comes after multiple Big Ten schools have announced they will require either proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test within the last 72 hours. Michigan State, Maryland, Rutgers and Michigan will adhere to those guidelines going forward.
Ohio State is not doing so right now, but the press release “encourages and urges all patrons at our events” to wear their masks at all times and “strongly recommends” surgical grade masks as well as double-masking if using cloth masks.
The men’s basketball team has just emerged from a 22-day layoff due to multiple positive COVID-19 tests within the program.
