Ohio State Buckeyes linebacker Dallas Gant (19) runs with defensive end Tyreke Smith (11) during football training camp at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center in Columbus on Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2021.

Former Ohio State linebacker Dallas Gant will finish out his college career in his hometown.

He tweeted on Wednesday that he is transferring to Toledo.

Unable to seize a larger role with the Buckeyes after waiting for three seasons as a reserve behind a logjam of linebackers, Gant put his name in the NCAA transfer portal in September.

He’ll join the Rockets with two remaining seasons of eligibility. Last season counts as a redshirt season since he appeared in only three games, and he can also pick up an extra year of eligibility due to the coronavirus pandemic like all players across the Bowl Subdivision.

Over four years with the Buckeyes, he totaled 54 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks.

Gant previously attended St. John’s Jesuit High School in Toledo.
